Stephen Livesey Ashworth, June 2005
| I am a traveller in outer space, An astronaut in white protective suit. My body shields behind a carapace Impermeable from helmet down to boot. Cocooned in solitary dreams I roam This chill, half-weightless moonscape for a while. No woman homes this plain of silent stone – Till suddenly there dawns your rose-lipped smile. I clasp your hand, your touch to energise, But through the glove our fingers cannot pass. I make to kiss your hair, your lips, your eyes, But I am locked behind the goldfish glass. I call and hope your loving voice replies, But there’s no signal in my radio mast. |
